Tomorrow morning, something gentle arrives in the Fiddleswerth sky.

When Daddy Becomes a Star, our newest picture book, will be out in the world on August 15 - a rhyming, moonlit story for children ages 4 to 8 (and especially the littlest ones, 3 to 5) who have lost a parent. Tonight feels like the night before a quiet kind of birthday, and we wanted you to be the first to know.

The story

If your family knows Fiddleswerth, you know how he works. He is the kind magical elf who lives on the moon and watches over children below. When a child needs him, he speaks his enchanted words, becomes a tiny ladybug, and travels down to be near.

In this story, he comes to sit beside a child on the hardest nights of all - the ones after Daddy became a star. Fiddleswerth never pretends the hard thing away, and he never fixes it with magic, because grief cannot be fixed. Only accompanied. Instead, he helps the child discover what is still true: the love is still there. It only changed shape.

Why this story exists

Some stories arrive because a child needs words for something too big to hold. This one began exactly that way - as a way to sit beside that child, and beside the grown-up holding them.

It was written by Dr. Sandra Munoz, Psy.D., LMHC - a licensed therapist, and a person who knows this road. But it does not read like a therapist wrote it. It reads like a lullaby.

And every page glows with Lisa Bohart's illustrations - deep moonlit blues, warm golds, and a night sky tender enough for bedtime on the hardest nights.

One small, big idea

At the heart of the book is a single thought a child can hold: when someone we love becomes a star, the love does not end. It rises up into the sky and keeps watch. So on the wobbly nights, a child can look up and know - that light is still theirs.

A free letter, for a hard night

Alongside the book, there is a free gift: A Letter from Fiddleswerth, a printable comfort letter from the moon, written for a child who is missing someone. Read it aloud together, tuck it under a pillow, or slip it into a backpack. It is theirs to keep.

Where to find the book

When Daddy Becomes a Star arrives Friday, August 15.

If this story finds its way to a family who needs it, that is the whole reason it exists. From the moon to your reading chair - we will see you tomorrow, under a brand-new star.
