About this letter

I'm Dr. Sandra Munoz — a Child & Family Mental Health Counselor with more than 25 years beside children and families, and the author of the Fiddleswerth® book series. But this letter didn't begin in my office. It began in my own home.

My daughter was just two when Fiddleswerth, the little elf who lives on the moon, first came into our lives — a friend we'd wave goodnight to, who turned ordinary moments, a ladybug on the porch, the moon out the window, into small bits of wonder. Then, when she was five, her father died. And the friend we'd already loved for years became the one who helped carry her through it — leaving little notes and surprises, gentle reminders that she was watched over and never, ever alone.

That's where this letter comes from. It's the comfort I reached for as a grieving mother, written down so other families have it too — a soft, hopeful way to tell a child that love doesn't disappear. It simply changes shape.

The letter is a free companion to my upcoming Fiddleswerth book, When Daddy Becomes a Star — and yes, it carries a piece of our own story inside it.

Who this letter is for

This little letter was made for:

  • A child grieving a parent, grandparent, or someone they love

  • Parents and caregivers searching for the right words

  • Teachers, counselors, and helpers supporting a grieving child

  • Any family who wants a gentle, hopeful way to talk about loss

Wherever your family is right now, there's no wrong way to use it.

A few gentle questions, answered.

  • Is the letter really free? Yes — completely free to download, print, keep, and share. There's no cost and no catch.

  • What ages is it for? It's written to be gentle for young children and still meaningful for older ones. You know your child best — read it together in whatever way feels right.

  • How do I use it? However helps. Some families read it at bedtime, some tuck it under a pillow, some print it on nice paper for a child's nightstand, and some share it with a teacher or counselor. There's no wrong way.

  • Will you email me a lot? No. After your letter arrives, you'll only hear from me now and then — and you'll be the first to know when my book When Daddy Becomes a Star is ready. You can unsubscribe anytime.

  • Can I share it with another family? Please do. If you know a family who could use it, you're warmly welcome to print and share it.
